Robert “Bob” Gust Johnson passed to his eternal life with Christ on Monday morning, June 28, 2010. He was born January 18, 1920 to Gus and Ada Johnson in Springfield Township, Ohio. He graduated from Springfield (Township) High School. He was predeceased by his parents. Robert was a faithful and devoted husband to Geneva for 68 years; a loving father to Carol Murty of Ft. Myers Fla., Pat Hill (Bill) of Stow, Robert, Jr. of Akron, David of Tallmadge and Marilyn Jones (Eugene) of Akron. He will be dearly missed by family and friends with a special tribute to best friend Reuben Emerson and Harry Hausman from Firestone. Thank you for being a special part of our Dad's life. Robert had 13 grandchildren: Christine (Barry), Lisa (Dave), Brian, Sharon (Joe), Steven (Lori), Michael (Heather), Lorie (Steve), Julie (Richie), Jason (Megan), Jodi, Jonathon (Liz), Timothy (Kelly) and Matthew (Sarah); and 13 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Benjamin, Ethan, Peyton, Josiah, Kaitlynn, Micah, Olivia, Roxy, Leah, Zachary, Jordan, and Keaton. A dedicated member of First Assembly of God church for over 44 years, he served on the church Board of Directors for many years, sang bass in the choir and played the trombone. Robert served his country during World War II in the Army 486th Ordinance Evacuation Company. That Company saw action in Northern France, The Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and Normandy. He served from February 18, 1942 until August 7, 1945 and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, five bronze stars for service and the good conduct medal. He wept at the realism of the movie ``Saving Private Ryan', having served in that area during the war. Robert retired from The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company after 42 years of committed service. Our family would like to express our thanks to the staff of Summit Villa Nursing Center of Tallmadge for their service to Robert and our family and a special thank you to the hospice nurses of In-House Hospice of Akron for their care and comfort during the last months of his life. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010, at 10 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Rev. Kent R. Jarvis officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Assembly of God Mission Fund, 1175 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.
