NORTON/BARBERTON -- Robert “Bo” Dutton, 92, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. A resident of Norton since 1966, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the invasion of Italy, Okinawa and the Occupation of Japan. He was a graduate of Kent State University, where he was an exceptional athlete, lettering in basketball, baseball and football. Bo retired from Barberton City Schools in 1974, as a teacher and was the head basketball coach from 1960 to 1969. He was a life-long horse racing enthusiast and was recognized as the oldest active Mutual Clerk in Ohio, still working at Thistledown Race Track as of this year, retiring in April 2011. Bo was inducted into the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and also served on the Hall of Fame selection committee for many years. He also was a member of Wadsworth Hall of Fame, Barberton Elks Lodge for many years and a life-long golfer at Barberton Brookside Country Club. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie and daughter, Jane Maag and also sister, Donna Grubb, Bo is survived by his son, Bob Dutton; four grandchildren, Nicole Garman, Jessica Buckwalter, Andrew Dutton and Katie Simmons; great-grandchildren, Jack and Reece Garman and William Dutton. Funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barberton Free Clinic, 113 9th St. N.W., Barberton, Ohio 44203.
