Orrin C. Richards

Orrin C. Richards, Jr., 86, peacefully passed from this life at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 3, 2011. He was born in Barberton on May 19, 1925 to the late Orrin Sr. and Marie Richards. Orrin was a lifelong resident of Barberton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict and retired from Seiberling Rubber Co. after 36 years of service.  Orrin touched the lives of many through his selfless service. He was the Boy Scout Leader of Troop #114, donated many gallons of blood through the American Red Cross, and was an active member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1617.  Orrin was an active member of St. Augustine Church, where he was an altar server, Eucharistic Minister and dedicated to the Holy Hour Program from its inception.  Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gladys (Myers) Richards; his parents; brothers, William and Norman Richards; sister, Elaine Richards; and grandson, Bryan Abercrombie; Orrin is survived by his children, Diane (Peter) Abercrombie of Clinton, Utah, Dan (Marcia) Richards of Canfield, Bev (Greg) Miller of Akron, Karen (Jeff) Davis of Pflugerville, Texas, Robert (Cheryl) Richards of Norton, Donna (Guy) Doss of Sanford, N.C., and Mary Richards of Durham, N.C. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Dolores) Richards; sister, Norma (Joe) Sukie, both of Barberton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  Prayers will be recited Friday, 9:30 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203, with Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Military honors to follow at Lake Anna Veterans Memorial conducted by Firestone VFW 3383. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church Endowment Fund, 204 Sixth St. N.W., Barberton 44203.
