Leona D. (Rodgers) Haley, 96, passed away October 9, 2011. She was born September 24, 1915 in Wynot, Nebraska to the late John and Melvina (McFarland) Rodgers, and lived most of her life in the Akron area. Leona had a long career as a volunteer. She served the Coventry School District PTA, volunteered with the Boy Scouts Mother's Club, was a Girl Scout Leader, and volunteered with the Red Cross and Good Neighbors. Mrs. Haley was also a long-time member of Granger United Methodist Church in Medina and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was a loving wife to her husband, Charles, who predeceased her, and a loving mother to her children, Charles (Pat) of Findlay and Marsha (Mike) Shilts of Tecumseh, Mich.; brothers, Raymond, Vernon, and Harold. She is survived by her children and four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Heather) of Cincinnati, Matthew (Tyra) of Denton, Texas, Meghan Shilts of Milford, Conn., and Michael Shilts of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Vernon and Harold. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 10 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St, with Pastor Doug Lewis officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends who wish, may make contributions in her name to Granger United Methodist Church, 1235 Granger Rd., Medina, Ohio 44256, or to the charity of your choice.
