Earl A. Coolman

MANCHESTER -- Earl A. Coolman, 93, passed away at his residence.  He was an active member of Grace Bible Church formerly known as Manchester Trinity Chapel serving several years as an Elder and as president of the Consistory. He sang in the choir, was active in the audio/visual program and enjoyed participating in the Tuesday Bible Study group at church. He was a member of the Gideons.  Mr. Coolman worked for the BF Goodrich company prior to World War II when he then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Jersey as chief radioman. After the war he was an apprentice carpenter with his father. He worked for the Akron Board of Education from 1947-1968 and was instrumental in setting up their radio and TV network. He retired from the University of Akron after years of service in their radio and TV broadcasting system. In 1999 he was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame.  Preceded in death by daughter, Judith Bates McClung, Mr. Coolman is survived by his loving wife, Donna, whom with would have celebrated their fifty year wedding anniversary in October; daughter, Jana (Robert) Elb of Chicago; and son, Gregory Sager from previous marriage.  Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Bible Church, with Pastor Jerry Harpool officiating. The family will receive friends TONIGHT from 5 to 8 p.m. at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (Rt. 619) and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
