Donald L. DeLand

BARBERTON -- Donald L. DeLand, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Barberton Summa Hospital, with his family by his side, after a short illness.  Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 1, 1925, to the late Frank G. and Olive DeLand, Donald worked at the P.P.G. in Barberton, where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Violet Shaffer. As a chemical engineer, he worked for Goodyear Tire in Akron for 35 years. Donald was a member of Emanuel Church of Christ and an avid lover of trees.  In addition to his wife, Violet; Donald is survived by his four children, Barbara (Larry) Kopp of Canal Fulton, Richard (Dianne) of Pennsylvania, Robert of Connecticut and John (Yvonne) of Illinois; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held Friday, 1 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203. The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market St., P.O. Box 547, Akron, Ohio 44309-0547.
