It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Cherydal (Cherry) Werts Black Newman announce her passing May 6, 2010 after a short illness at her winter residence in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was 87 years young. Born in Akron, Ohio, Cherry was preceded in death by her parents, Charlene and Russel Werts; husbands, Dr. Glenn Black and William Newman. She is survived by her stepsister, Elaine (Jackie) Jackson of Cleveland and stepson, Dr. Glenn Black of Portage Lakes. A graduate of Buchtel High School, Cherry earned her bachelor degree from the University of Akron and pursued a professional career with Akron City Hospital as a certified staff dietician. For many years she was a licensed real estate agent working with her longtime close friends at Kruger Realty. She also was known for her successful entrepreneurial business sense and background. She was a long-standing member of both the Akron City Womens Club and the Turkeyfoot Island Club. She embraced many passions that included snow skiing, reading, entertaining, cooking, fashion, and boating. Cherry's adventurous spirit led her, at age 78, over the Atlantic Ocean to try paragliding for the first time. Cherry was a spiritual, vivacious, gregarious, engaging lady who had an unforgettable smile and laugh. She was filled with unrelenting energy and always made time for those less fortunate than she. She will be remembered by her wide circle of friends and colleagues, with whom she shared her interests and wisdom, for her kind heart, sharp mind, keen sense of humor and determination.
